The beautiful UNESCO listed city of Dubrovnik has plenty to offer its guests. Facing the Adriatic Sea and encircled by huge stone walls, Dubrovnik is can’t miss destination when visiting Croatia, which will certainly make a memorable experience. Located in the southern part of Croatia, close to the border of Montenegro and Bosnia, it is a strategically great base to explore these nearby regions as well.
It’s simple. Whether you want to spend your time wandering around Dubrovnik’s well-preserved historic old town, or you want to relax by the beach, Dubrovnik has beauty and power for everyone’s taste. Title ‘Pearl of Adriatic’ stands here fully deserved!
Dubrovnik Airport
Great convenience for all travelers is that Dubrovnik has a nearby airport. It is located in Cilipi village that is approximately 22km (14 mi) away from Dubrovnik city center. The airport is a major destination for leisure flights during the European summer holiday season and is one of the most important airports for the whole of Dalmatia.
Traveling from Dubrovnik Airport (Cilipi) to Dubrovnik Old Town city center is made easy by professional transfer and kind drivers. The transfer ride takes approximately 25 minutes in light traffic. We suggest that you arrange immediately a return way transfer that takes 45 minutes under the normal traffic conditions.
Optional panoramic drive to Srdj hill (instead of Dubrovnik Cable Car ride)
On your way to Dubrovnik, your driver will suggest enjoying a panoramic view of the whole town on the slope of the hill Srdj, particularly exquisite from its top. Srdj was once a patron saint of the city before St. Blaise. From the top, you can explore the War Museum inside the Imperial Tower and the Panorama café for some quick rest. Taking this panoramic drive gives you better photo options than taking a Dubrovnik cable car ride to Srdj.
What to do around Dubrovnik Airport
If you decide to take a return transfer, our advice is to devote some time before the flight to explore the area nearby Cavtat, capital of Konavle municipality. It is a small village by the sea 20km (20min) away from Dubrovnik, especially attractive because of lush Mediterranean vegetation, promenade 7km long, and beautiful stone architecture, such as the house of Vlaho Bukovac, Church st Nikola, Racic Mausoleum, Lady of the snow, etc. If you are hungry – we suggest you fine dining restaurant Bugenvila for a marvelous taste of the Mediterranean.
On the other hand, if you want to taste some good local wine, do not miss Konavle. Karaman Winery and Wine Room is a beautiful place to relax before the flight. You can try dry or sweet wine (prosek), but Malvasija white wine from Dubrovnik is definitely on the top of the list. When accompanied with some olives, cheese, and prosciutto, the pleasure is complete! Family Crvik is a great choice if you want some memorable experience, both for social impression and varieties of wines to offer.
When at the airport, the story is not over yet! Please do not miss to visit ‘Djurovića cave’, situated directly below the airport. It is natural karst phenomena about 200m long and about 25 m deep. In the part of the cave called Skyceller, in an amazing set out you can enjoy winetasting from the Konavle region.
Bon voyage, we are now sure you are leaving with memories!
